Make Your Own Luck With HVAC Maintenance

There are two kinds of people in the world: people who believe in lucky charms and four-leaf clovers, and people who believe you have to make your own luck. If you are the second kind, the kind who doesn’t believe in four-leaf clovers, then Air Comfort Service, Inc. has got your back!

We know, like you, that you don’t need good luck to be comfortable in your own home. What you need is HVAC maintenance! Not following? That’s okay! We’ll tell you three HVAC maintenance tips for keeping your home comfortable- no luck needed.

Check Your Thermostat

Our first maintenance tip is to check up on your thermostat occasionally. The thermostat is one of the most important components of your HVAC system since it is responsible for communicating with the central unit to tell it when to turn on, when the desired temperature has been reached, and when to turn off.

The thermostat reads the temperature of the air in your home and communicates it to your central HVAC unit. Maintaining your thermostat in good working condition is essential because, without a working thermostat, you may as well not have central HVAC at all.

A thermostat that is malfunctioning and incorrectly reading the temperature may cause your unit to short-cycle, which can cause it to burn out faster. In the best case, a thermostat that’s not working properly will keep your house at an uncomfortable temperature.

Invest in a Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier for anyone living on the St. Louis area is our next bit of advice. Not only does installing a dehumidifier in your home keep you comfortable by making your indoor air less muggy, but it can also protect against issues like mold and mildew growth.

Over time, if your HVAC system is not properly maintained, the moisture in the air outside can cause mold to grow in your unit and/or air ducts.

Installing a dehumidifier in your home ensures that the humidity level in your home is not so high that you feel like you’re in a steam room, but not so low that your throat and nasal passages feel dry.

Get Your Air Handler Checked Out

The air handler is the part of your HVAC system that is responsible for heating or cooling and distributing air throughout your home.

It is the indoor unit that contains the filter, dehumidifier, fan, and all the other essential parts that keep your home comfortable.

You should have your air handler inspected and tuned up at least every 6-12 months. It is usually recommended to have your heating system inspected during the fall, and the AC system inspected in the spring.

We hope that we have helped you to see that you don’t need to worry about any lucky charms for keeping your HVAC units running well in the spring. All you need to do to make your own luck is practice good HVAC maintenance!
