Celebrate Cool Air on National AC Day!
Believe it or not, today is a holiday you might not have heard of – it’s national AC day! Does that sound a little odd to you? Well, we actually have tons of reasons to celebrate national AC day.
There is absolutely nothing worse than being stuck in a hot house in the summer with no way to cool yourself down. We have so many reasons to appreciate the Air Conditioning systems in our lives and the great HVAC professionals who help us take care of them.
So, in honor of national AC day, we wanted to share some of our best tips on how to keep your AC running well (and keep yourself cool and happy) this summer.
Routine AC Maintenance Keeps You Cool
The best way to keep your home cool all year long is just to give your AC unit a little TLC whenever you can. Routine air conditioning maintenance will keep your AC running for longer and prevent breakdowns that can lead to costly professional repairs.
Clean out your air filters and filter coils regularly (every few weeks or so) to stop your AC unit from getting clogged up and eventually breaking. Another awesome maintenance tip is to take measures to safely store your AC unit for the winter.
If you have a small, in-room AC unit, cover it during the winter months to stop it from collecting dust and grime while it isn’t running. Or, for a central AC system, cover the outdoor unit with a weatherproof tarp. This will ensure that you have a great, fully functional cooling system by the time the summer months roll around!
Consider Replacing Your Old AC Unit
Even if you are regularly cleaning and maintaining your air conditioner, eventually it’s just going to need replacing.
Most units can last up to 15 years with quality upkeep, but once your system hits that lifespan and starts breaking down, it can become an issue.
It will be more cost-effective to replace your AC than to keep paying for professional repairs to keep it running. Replacing your old AC unit will actually save you a ton of money, time and stress in the long run.
Newer models are designed to be more energy-efficient and can actually save you enough money to pay for themselves. Know when to replace your AC, and make sure that you hire the best, friendly professionals to help you with it.
Check Your Ductwork for Excess Dust
Our last tip, alongside maintaining your AC and knowing when to replace it, is to always keep your AC ducts clean.
You may not know this, but the ducts of your AC system actually collect tons of dust, debris, and even dangerous mold over time.
To keep yourself and your AC healthy and happy, make sure you clean out your ducts frequently or have a helpful professional do it for you.
