R-22 (Freon) Refrigerant Phase Out

R-22 (Freon) is a refrigerant used in air conditioners and heat pumps.  Earlier this year, the cost for R-22 skyrocketed.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has scheduled R-22 for production phase out because of its harmful impact on the environment, with production ending by 2020.  The EPA set limits on how much R-22 can be produced and imported each year, but they failed to set limits for 2012.  This created uncertainty in the marketplace and manufacturers increased their prices.  Until the EPA makes its decision on the limit for 2012, prices may continue to rise.  What this means is, if you routinely add a pound or more of R-22 to your air conditioner or heat pump to “get through the summer”, it’s going to cost much more than in previous years.  The price of R-22 will continue to increase every year until R-22 is no longer available.  Eventually, all equipment that uses R-22 will have to be replaced with equipment that uses more environmentally safe refrigerant.

Unfortunately, we have no control over the cost of a commodity like R-22.  We understand the price increase will have an enormous impact on many of our customers.  Our recommendation is to replace any of your equipment using R-22 with environmentally safe and more efficient equipment.  Investing in new, more efficient equipment could cut your energy costs by up to 40%!  Save on your utility bills, high R-22 repairs, and be more comfortable this spring and summer!  If you’ve been thinking about replacing your equipment, the time is now!  Take advantage of factory and utility company rebates!  Plus we have great financing options!  Call now to see if you qualify and for a FREE estimate on replacing your R-22 equipment!
